Creative Connections Poem #1

Posted on November 29, 2021April 20, 2022 by alexis

Connecting two randomly selected words: Safe + Job

A Safe can mean

a place to store

your riches and your wealth

but it can also be a place

to hide your secrets. Keep them

Safe. And safe can be a

state of mind,

or a physical place to be,

where you can be

quite self-assured that

you will not be harmed.

And a job is something

we’d like to have

if only to survive.

And like a safe it

keeps us secure:

“job security” is

what they say.

But what about the

other Job? The one

some know so well?

The tale of man

who was tested by

the devil and his God.

“Thou shall not test

the Lord your God”,

but he can watch

your trials unfold.

And Job, like all,

did not feel safe

because he was a pawn,

a thing to watch,

and made to suffer.

And he! So great

to withstand the pains,

when the rest of us

are a lot more sane.

So Safe’s are meant

to be locked away

and jobs are meant

to make secure,

and yet we’re miserable

despite wealth

despite work.

So perhaps we are

just like Job,

and someone’s watching

our little lives unfold.
